CGiii Comment

Lilly Hu both directs and stars in this vivid portrait of girlhood, teenage love, and frustrated desire. Yin Jia and Tong Tong (Xuanyu Chen and Hu), have carved out a life together: shoplifting for food, joyously pelting oranges at cars, and sharing a bed. Within the walls of their small apartment, they are tied together by an intensely physical, intimate bond; but in front of other people, Tong Tong appears cold and unfeeling towards Yin Jia. When Tong Tong begins a relationship with a drug dealer, the devoted Yin Jia is prepared to sacrifice all that she has. An assured and visually stylish debut based on a true experience, 1 Girl Infinite is set in Hu’s hometown of Changsha, China, which is portrayed with great affection, even while its characters dream of being elsewhere.
