The(ir) Blurb...

Two young queer Chinese men who have feelings for each other connect over the phone just as one of them is preparing to be married to a woman. In Confucian philosophy, the dominant ideology in late imperial China with deep roots in Chinese tradition and culture and further influence on modern Chinese society, one of the key virtues is meant to ensure heirs. This ideology is called filial piety, which renders the LGBTQ group stressed in China. There are an estimated more than 30 million gay population in China, many of whom marry the unknowing people of the opposite sex due to family and societal pressure. These marriages inevitably end up in tragedy. This film aims to support for and to foster a critical understanding of gay marriage. It discusses how the tradition's principles and virtues need to be reinterpreted, reassessed and transformed to reflect perspectives in all sexualities.
