CGiii Comment

Question: Is Joe Orton's brand of comedy dated and now irrelevant?

In 1964, when the play was first performed it must have raised a few eyebrows - by the time the film was screened (3 years after Orton's murder), those eyebrows would certainly have been flattened.

Now...it will be brushed off as banal naivete.

How the world has changed!

The inept direction strips away any potential comedy that the original script offered - making this a thoroughly turgid journey back to 1970.

Its only appeal nowadays...a curiosity.

Sorry, Joe.

The(ir) Blurb...

Sloane, a handsome, sexy and completely amoral young man, joins Kath's household as a lodger and proceeds to manipulate her and her brother, Ed. He is recognized by Kemp (Dadda) as the murderer of Kemp's former employer, whereupon Sloane murders Kemp. Sloane's "just desserts" are not what one would expect.
