CGiii Comment

Adapted from the autobiographical novel published in 2021, “Adieu ma honte” shines a light on how hard it was to make his voice heard in the face of social, religious and cultural pressures in a milieu sometimes marked by homophobia.

Over the course of nearly two hours, punctuated by powerful testimonies from family and friends, viewers follow Ouissem Belgacem’s childhood in La Cité Besson, a low-income neighborhood in Aix-en-Provence, his adolescence at the Toulouse Football Club training center, and his decision to give up a promising career to live his homosexuality in complete freedom. Since then, he has worked to raise awareness among young athletes, especially in the world of football, challenging attitudes towards homosexuality during talks at training centers.
