CGiii Comment

Mart Crowley (the writer) has had a rather unremarkable writing career. He was friendly with Natalie Wood...namedropping ad nauseam.

But, there is no getting away from the fact that Crowley has had a litany of writing failures...

The Boys in the Band was an event in its time - now, it is a dated piece of ham-acted nostalgia.

This documentary is a dismal attempt to resurrect/resuscitate a tired old piece by a tired old writer who never really achieved anything but a one-minor-hit.

Talking heads spout on about being gay, the Stonewall Inn raises its tired head, archival footage and all it amounts to is...nostalgia trying to be relevant today. It's not.

The(ir) Blurb...

On the eve of the 40th anniversary of the Gay Rights Movement, the film explores the drama, struggle and enduring legacy of the first-ever gay play and subsequent Hollywood movie to successfully reach a mainstream audience. Beloved by some for breaking new ground, and condemned by others for reinforcing gay stereotypes, The Boys in the Band sparked heated controversy that still exists four decades later.
