CGiii Comment

Seriously...this is a ridiculous, endlessly repetitive documentary.

No-one - in their right mind - is going to justify a teenager killing a gay teenager. So, everyone (out of the many) interviewed tell the same thing...outrage.

That's the first 12 minutes - and no-one thought to mention: How can a 14 year old kid get access to a gun!?!

Next...students at the Harvey Milk High School talk of their experiences...name-calling, bullying ad nauseum.

Look...the tragedies that homophobia instigate are horrific, intolerable...criminal. We all know this.

But - this film - is preaching to the converted. There's no point in listening to people committed to the cause for change. It's the people who are against change that need to be challenged...and without confronting them - renders this film [to be] rather redundant.

The(ir) Blurb...

Few contemporary social issues generate as much passion, misunderstanding and resistance as homosexuality. Deeply held homophobic beliefs, passed on from one generation to the next, pose ongoing challenges to the peaceful coexistence of today's young people. This is especially problematic in our schools when it comes to the treatment of LGBT students by their straight-identifying peers, and by the adults who teach, counsel and supervise them. Teach Your Children Well focuses on the issues of homophobia, bullying and school violence as told by students, teachers, activists and allies of the LGBT community. The film exposes the effects of homophobia in our schools and encourages acceptance and respect for the right of others to be and express who they are. Ongoing instances of homophobic-related violence and suicides tragically highlight the importance of reshaping the long-standing, outdated beliefs about homosexuality and those who identify as LGBT.
