In the Name of the Empress

Three friends set out in search of the fountain of youth and find themselves in a remote Alpine village. Instead of the fountain, they encounter a witch, who foretells that one of them is the reincarnation of Empress Sissi and will be rewarded with eternal youth and wealth — but only the one who decides in the “most royal manner” will be chosen. A ruthless battle ensues, driven by the friends’ own megalomania. This film is like an over-the-top stage drama, and above all, unadulterated CAMP.

Drei Freund*innen suchen den ewigen Jungbrunnen und landen in einem abgelegenen Alpenort. Statt des Brunnens treffen sie auf eine Hexe, die prophezeit: Eine von ihnen sei die Wiedergeburt von Kaiserin Sissi und werde mit ewiger Jugend und Reichtum belohnt – doch nur, wer auf „königlichste Art“ entscheide, wird auserwählt. Es beginnt ein gnadenloser Wettkampf, getrieben vom eigenen Größenwahn. Ein Spielfilm wie ein überzogenes Theaterstück – und vor allem eins: CAMP.
