Lianna

Country: USA, Language: English, 110 mins

  • Director: John Sayles
  • Writer: John Sayles
  • Producer: Jeffrey Nelson; Maggie Renzi

CGiii Comment

The acting is as dodgy as hell.

The script is as refreshing as a pint of soured milk.

Sayles has a loyal following due to his character-driven work...but, this is just too clumsy, too dated to be taken seriously now.

The chauvinism alone is enough to switch it off - oooh a sign of those miserable times.

The day will come when lesbian dramas are written and directed by lesbians.

It's the only way forward.

The(ir) Blurb...

Lianna and her husband Dick have been married for a few years but the marriage isn't a happy one, since Dick treats her with arrogance. One day Lianna falls in love - with Ruth, a teacher. The people who know them act different: her husband with feelings of sexual betrayal, her children with curiosity and Lianna's friends with ambivalence.
