Jeff Goldblum plays a smooth-talking brain doctor in a hypnotic piece of 1950s weirdness by American outlier Rick Alverson. A beautiful portrait of America’s fractured identity.
Get ready for a mind-bending journey to the dark side of 1950s utopianism. Andy (Tye Sheridan) is an extremely introspective young man. His distant, figure-skater father, Frederick (Udo Kier), has refused Andy permission to visit his mother since she was institutionalised for depression. Enter dad's charismatic friend, Dr. Walter Fiennes (Jeff Goldblum), an enthusiastic performer of lobotomies on predominantly female patients. The suave medico asks Andy to take photographs on a field trip of American hospitals. So begins a supremely strange and strikingly decorated odyssey, with a show-stopping appearance by Denis Lavant as a particularly demented therapist. It's anything but your average road movie.
