CGiii Comment

It took two men to write this...!

What do men know about women? Almost nothing.

What do men know about lesbian love? Absolutely nothing.

Nothing is shown, everything is told via incessant and monotonous conversations. A deluge of words works in theatre...in film, it's indicative of bad/lazy direction.

As for all the straight-to-camera scenes (there are [way too] many)...it's all been done before. If you can't bring something new to the table...why bother?!?

The Ring Thing would have benefited from a massive injection of originality...oh, and a tripod!

The(ir) Blurb...

How is gay marriage shaping expectations about commitment for LGBT couples? Weaving fiction with documentary, The Ring Thing looks at this question through the eyes of Sarah and Kristen, who are in love but who have divergent perspectives on marriage.

When Sarah accidentally proposes to Kristen, their conflicting dreams about their future together rise to the surface, sending both women on separate journeys of marital exploration. In one version, Sarah, a documentary filmmaker, begins interviewing same-sex couples in an attempt to overcome her fears of marriage and divorce. In the other, Kristen, who's ready to tie the knot, sees her relationship with Sarah unravel as career aspirations and passion threaten to pull the women apart.

William Sulllivan (That's Not Us, Inside Out 2015) highlights the emotional experiences faced by same-sex couples as they negotiate a landscape where marriage and divorce are very real possibilities.
