CGiii Comment

An interesting project...a hybrid of documentary and drama.

Talking heads are inserted throughout, almost as an assurance to the dramatic narrative...it works, in part.

It's a relatively short film (75 minutes) but it seems longer...not necessarily in a good way!

It does tend to wander...but, when the director keeps the focus, it is rather engaging.

Definitely, worth a watch...for two reason...to see some truly charismatic young folk, talking about their dreams and desires!

And, for filmmakers, to witness a different way of telling a story! Definitely interesting stuff to ruminate over!

The(ir) Blurb...

“#BKKY“ is a hybrid film based on interviews with a group of Thai adolescents – not quite 20-years-olds – who are not yet perceived as grown-ups. The film reflects their stories and diverse gender identities in one fictionalised person, JoJo, who leads us through a variety of themes – love, sex, the body, parents, jealousy, school, the future. A skillful film that builds a queer perspective where the reality of heteronormativity is but weak static in the background.
