Jeyetna

Since 2019, period products have become unaffordable for nearly three quarters of the Lebanese population. It is in this health crisis that I created "Jeyetna". It draws ten intimate portraits of women in situations of period poverty - from a diverse range of age groups, with contrasting religious, social and economic backgrounds - thereby ensuring that a wide, cross-section of women in Lebanon are represented (including Amira, a refugee from Syria, Gigi a transgender woman and Funmi a migrant worker from Nigeria). With my first film, I engage with the daily struggles that these women face during Lebanon's economic and political collapse. "Jeyetna" draws a Lebanese - but also a universal - portrait of period poverty: to break the silence, for women, by women."
