Why make a film about a noted historical figure and change all the facts?

Joan did not have a sister....that startling lie is in the first few minutes, there are over 120 more minutes of bogus facts and camp shenanigans before the psychotic Joan is tied to stake and fried...yes, that may sound flippant - but, that is exactly what this film is...flippant and false.
