CGiii Comment

Written with inmates from the Windhoek Correctional Facility, ‘Salute’ is the first Namibian film depicting life in correctional facilities. While characters are fictional, the story is based on true events. Some inmates were involved as extras while some ex-inmates were involved as actors, to ensure the portrayal of life in correctional facilities was a true reflection of what happens on the ground. The film was shot at the Windhoek Correctional Facility. Carlito (Adriano Visagie, winner best male actor in a Theatre Play, NTFA 2017) is a young Namibian man who is sentenced to five years imprisonment because of fraud. Nothing can prepare him for his new life in custody. Naïve, he gets lured in the group of the General (Monray Garoeb), a dangerous criminal who rules over his cell.
