CGiii Comment
From the pen of Gilbert Adair...
It's almost like watching an updated version of The Dresser...same plot, same kind of humour (albeit less wordy)...but, the subtext (as in Joseph, the chauffeur, the gardener, the handyman, the victim of unrequited love) takes a less-than-major role...which, is a pity.
It could have been a different film entirely...quite possibly better! We will never know.
The ever-dependable Brian Cox rises to the occasion...delivering acerbic one-liners here, there and everywhere. And, thankfully, it's not as predictable as it leads you to believe.
Quite, quite charming, devilishly entertaining and terribly British!
