CGiii Comment

Unmistakeable Davies - beautifully composed and photographed.

Even Mr Davies admits that it doesn't work - he describes it as a transition piece, enabling him to do The House of Mirth.

John Kennedy Toole only wrote 2 books before he committed suicide...this (aged 16) and the Pulitzer winning A Confederacy of Dunces.

Toole's life is a cliche - isolated childhood and a doting mother - and a sexual confusion.

The film isn't exactly terrible - it's just snail-pace slow and, yes, cliched.

But..it could not not have been, considering the source material - figure that one out.

The(ir) Blurb...

While on a train, a teenage boy thinks about his life and the flamboyant aunt whose friendship acted as an emotional shield from his troubled family. This film evokes the haunting quality of memory while creating a heartfelt portrait of a boy's life in a rural 1940s Southern town.
