At the height of 1920's Paris, Flora Pearl, a beautiful courtesan, in her early 40's, is caught in a web of seduction and deceit as her secret love affair with a boy half her age threatens to destroy her life.
Fueled by her strong desire for Virgil, a young florist resembling a Cherub angel, Flora seduces the young man and moves him into her home. She keeps him a secret in her boudoir and spoils him with fine fabrics from China, canvases and paints and delicious pastries which Virgil consumes daily.
While Flora engages in her social and sexual activities in the afternoon with renown Dr. Oscar Schmitt, Flora's client of 10 years who provides her lavish lifestyle, she spends her nights with Virgil, indulging their sexual appetite and fueling their passion with ritualistic lovemaking in the bathroom. Virgil's body grows fatter with every sweet morsel he consumes, as does Flora's insatiable appetite for her young lover's fleshy body.
As their passion heightens and their love deepens, Virgil becomes increasingly jealous of Flora's afternoon activities. He creates a clever way to spy on Flora and Oscar underneath the boudoir door and watches Flora perform a surgical procedure on the wealthy doctor during one of his visits. Troubled by what he saw, Virgil confesses his dissatisfaction to his sister Anne, not knowing of the deadly betrayal he has set in motion.
Anne instigates a dangerous series of events in her thirst for money and exposes Flora and Virgil's secret affair to the wealthy doctor, threatening to expose Dr. Schmitt's own unusual relationship with Flora to the public. But the doctor devises a plan to protect his identity and relationship with the courtesan. As Dr. Schmitt's plan unfolds, the once methodical and scrupulous Flora spins out of control and must choose between the young man she loves and the doctor who loves and provides for her.
