CGiii Comment

Oooh this is a difficult one.

Foolish and/or brave? Or, just downright fishy?

99% of the negativity received was dished out by the gay community - so, why did we not hear their opinions...we do hear, over and over again, the over-arching, all-too-familiar Christian argument.

The whole provocation-to-get-a-reaction debate rears its ugly head...and, it is totally subjective - especially when issues of authenticity are referenced rather than investigated.

It is a little misguided and naive...the respraying of the word 'fag' by the owner after it was removed by an offended person, the buying of 'FG Bug' license plate, the production of 'fagbug' stickers, a lesbian wearing 'Playboy' sunglasses...!!!

The sentimentality of her failed relationship screams...look what I have sacrificed!!! A little too self-serving in the creation of a martyr...

It doesn't really matter what the motivation for making this was - money, fame...Will it change anything? Sadly, no.

In America, the Constitution allows for hate - a rainbow painted beetle isn't going to change that fact - but, at least, one person tried...unfortunately, it is not a great piece of film-making.

The(ir) Blurb...

On the 11th Annual National Day of Silence, Erin Davies was victim to a hate crime in Albany, New York. Because of sporting a rainbow sticker on her VW Beetle, Erin's car was vandalized, left with the words "fag" and "u r gay" placed on the driver's side window and hood of her car. Despite initial shock and embarrassment, Erin decided to embrace what happened by leaving the graffiti on her car. She took her car, now known worldwide as the "fagbug," on a 58-day trip around the United States and Canada. Along the way, Erin discovered other, more serious hate crimes, had people attempt to remove the graffiti, and experimented with having a male drive her car. After driving the fagbug for one year, Erin decided to give her car a makeover.
