CGiii Comment

Bonkers! Absolute bonkers.

It's as if there were two sets of crew, working independently of each other. At times the cinematography is absolutely perfect...then, there are times when it's all over the place, the tripod being ditched for a hand-held!

The same can be said of the writers. One minute it's serious, raising quite a few pertinent social, political and religious issues...then, without any notice, it veers off the rails into downright lunacy!

There's a suicidal, cross-dressing bus driver. A lovelorn, jilted, unhinged stalker. A shopaholic, trust-funded Sloane-Ranger...with the voice of an angel. And, a monk who talks to beetles!!! Indeed, an eclectic bunch of characters, held together by a gay couple who just want to get married.

The film is a little shambolic...but, the final 10 or so minutes really do make up for all the 'inconsistencies' - it's camper than camp, it's sweeter than sweetness itself...and, above all, it's joyously joyful nonsense! And, let's be honest...who doesn't need a bit of nonsense in their lives!?!

And, as the end credits roll...listen to one of the most beautiful songs ever written: Giovanni Caccamo's Puoi fidarti di me.

The(ir) Blurb...

Antonio has finally found the love of his life, Paolo, with whom he lives happily in Berlin. Even if still not sure about their families’ reactions, they decide to get married in Italy, in the small village from where Antonio’s parents live. His mother, Anna, immediately accepts the guys’ intentions, as long as all traditions are respected: the future mother-in-law will have to attend the wedding, a famous wedding planner will be in charge of the organization and the marriage will be celebrated by her husband, Roberto, the mayor of the town, who has based all his politics on hospitality and integration. Joined by their bizarre friends Benedetta and Donato, the two ancées start to prepare the ceremony, but will Paolo’s conservative mother, Vincenza, attend the wedding? And, above all, will Roberto support his son’s choice?
