CGiii Comment

Quite simply...a masterclass in filmmaking.

Suspense, intrigue, perversion, eroticism and humour...all encapsulated into a beautifully painted, exquisitely realised canvas. Yes, the cinematography is resplendent. Yes, the production design is faultless. The lighting...the music...everything, done right!

At the heart is a love-story...future filmmakers of lesbiana should watch, learn and take extensive notes. This is how you do a lesbian sex scene...to hell with feminist, lesbian porn...this is erotica in its highest form.

With a running time of 140 minutes, there is never a dull moment...there are a few moments that will befuddle and confuse...be patient, the structure of the film reveals - in time - all.

And...what a way to end a film! Feminist pornographers will be reeling...because it was made by a man!

The(ir) Blurb...

1930s Korea, in the period of Japanese occupation, a new girl (Sookee) is hired as a handmaiden to a Japanese heiress (Hideko) who lives a secluded life on a large countryside estate with her domineering Uncle (Kouzuki). But the maid has a secret. She is a pickpocket recruited by a swindler posing as a Japanese Count to help him seduce the Lady to elope with him, rob her of her fortune, and lock her up in a madhouse. The plan seems to proceed according to plan until Sookee and Hideko discover some unexpected emotions.

A modernized Korean version of Sarah Waters' novel, Fingersmith.
