CGiii Comment
A life of duty, regret and latent longing...
It's a dimly-lit, quiet affair with an uncomfortable essence of cruelty.
Four generations of man are represented...with all of their frustrations. The minimal dialogue simply amplifies their inability to communicate.Cheerless, desperately sad and hopelessly pessimistic...a little light would have been a welcomed diversion.
Instead, the director chooses to wallow in the gloom...and that, unfortunately, is the film's downfall - few want to witness a life of unrelenting dreariness.
Still, there is an art and a futile sensitivity in the depiction of this life...and that can only be commended.
