CGiii Comment

Now, we won't give anything away...but, there is a bit of same-sex intimacy!

Now, it seems that die-hard Tarantino fans are in a quandary over this...they don't know whether to love it (afterall, it is by their master) or, hate it (he must have been having a few bad days when he made this).

To us, it seems that Tarantino has gone back to his roots...Reservoir Dogs was dialogue-driven...lo-and-behold, so is this.

This is pure theatre on the big screen...it's funny, it's scathing and, thankfully, wholly uncomfortable. Tarantino generously piles on the racism and the misogyny...Tarantino is angry and is sharpening his soon-to-be gleaming blade. The victim: society, American society in particular.

So, for the dissenters...obviously, you had no idea what Tarantino was getting at...too many words, not enough action!

Hold on...the action comes...it just takes a while. Tarantino's bloodbath runneth over, eventually. But first, we've got to get to know the character...and get to know them we do...it's not called The Hateful Eight for no reason...not one would you want to share a second with...shady f**kers, the lot of 'em.

Performance wise, each and all took it to town...but, Jennifer Jason Leigh took it one step further and painted it red.

The cinematography - mostly in one room - is sumptuous. You can feel the warmth, you can feel the freeze. And, Morricone's score is as orchestral as the Golden Age.

These three deserved their Oscar nominations.

Tarantino deserved one too...he went back to his roots, wrote some delicious dialogue and directed - with sure-footed clarity - actors.

Yip, we loved it.

The(ir) Blurb...

Some time after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the winery Wyoming landscape. Bounty hunter John Ruth and his fugitive captive Daisy Domergue race towards the town of Red Rock, where Ruth will bring Daisy to justice. Along the road, they encounter Major Marquis Warren an infamous bounty hunter; and Chris Mannix a man who claims to be Red Rocks new sheriff. Lost in a blizzard the bunch seek refuge at Minnie's haberdashery. When they arrive they are greeted by unfamiliar faces: Bob, who claims to be taking care of the place while Minnie is gone; Oswaldo Mobray, the hangman of red rock; Joe Gage, a cow puncher; and confederate general Sanford Smithers.
