To Die For

Country: USA, Language: English, 106 mins

  • Director: Gus Van Sant
  • Writer: Joyce Maynard; Buck Henry
  • Producer: Joseph M. Caracciolo; Sandy Isaac

CGiii Comment

Van Sant seems to make better 'straight' movies than his dreary 'gay' ones.

Why is that? Answers on a postcard.

This has actually got a John Waters feel about it.

The documentary approach works a treat, none of his usual trademarks - that is, until he splits the screen at the very end.

Kidman is more than delirious. She should do more comedy. So should the director!

The(ir) Blurb...

Suzanne Stone (Maretto) knows exactly what she wants. She wants to be a television newscaster and she is willing to do anything to get what she wants. What she lacks in intelligence, she makes up for in cold determination and diabolical wiles. As she pursues her goal with relentless focus, she is forced to destroy anything and anyone that may stand in her way, regardless of the ultimate cost or means necessary.
