C'mon...Astaire was an unattractive goofball...playing an 'alluring' gentleman takes a helluva lot of suspending disbelief!
His form of dancing is - dare we say - by today's standards...a little hackneyed!?!
The story is like all the rest...see girl, dance, get girl, dance, lose girl, dance, get girl back...dance!
The direction is like all the rest...Mark Sandrich had a formula and - tenaciously - stuck to it!

Showman Jerry Travers is working for producer Horace Hardwick in London. Jerry demonstrates his new dance steps late one night in Horace's hotel, much to the annoyance of sleeping Dale Tremont below. She goes upstairs to complain and the two are immediately attracted to each other. Complications arise when Dale mistakes Jerry for Horace.
