What Makes a Man is a film that tackles a unique story of a young man who is from an extremely traditional family. The audience joins Joseph as he encounters and attempts to overcome the themes of fear and rejection. The narrative, taking place between a father and son over morning coffee, tackles issues of generational gaps, gender norms, and masculine standards that are still prevalent in today’s time. The script takes a realistic approach at observing the difficulties of coming out and the real reactions people in the LGBT community face during the process. The film's raw and realistic dialogue is riveting and heartbreaking; allowing the viewer to see deep into the mind of character's perceptions, misunderstandings, and prejudices.
