CGiii Comment

Middle-class lockdown blues...better to be miserable in a swanky townhouse rather than on the 28th floor of a tower block in a council estate!

No matter where you find yourself on the social ladder, Lockdown has affected everyone in a multitude of different ways.

Kirsty Bell's debut feature [as a director, she is a rather prolific producer] tries to tackle too many familiar and not-so familiar issues many have faced [and are still facing]. 6 interwoven stories could have been pared down to a more economical and workable 4...Derek Jacobi, Morgana Robinson and Camilla Rutherford have the tear-jerking stories...and, they play them to heart-breaking perfection. As to the other three [stories], a mixed bag, but the creepy stalker one...well, that ought not to have been included. Jeff Fahey's romance is a bit of light relief. The pregnant couple, unnecessary. As for the final story, it works as the binding agent...and, there's a little lesbian romance thrown in to keep it interesting.

Can anyone really [and truly] say they enjoyed lockdown? No, didn't think so. It's a bit like this film...hard to enjoy simply because it's still too raw, too familiar...and, at the time of writing, not over!

Beautifully shot [you really can't go wrong with B&W], wonderfully acted and skilfully directed...all it really needed was a brutal script editor!

The(ir) Blurb...

When Lockdown is imposed, the cast and crew of a film are taken from the set and sent home - alone. Actors without an audience. Directors without a script. Couples who fall apart. While others come together. A feature film composed of six interlinked narratives, 'Alone' explores what happens when we are freed from external distractions and forced to find the meaning in our lives and loves.
