Being Stavros

Country: UK, Language: English, 10 mins

  • Director: Jonothan McLeod

CGiii Comment

A short film that exposes a rather shocking truth...the gay scene has lost its sense-of-humour.

Well, to be a little more exact...those paragons of gay business [yes, that is sarcasm]...Mr Gay UK, Boyz 'Magazine' & Lick Underwear [who?!?]...definitely have.

Surely, no-one takes the ludicrous Mr Gay UK 'competition' and/or the laughably-bad Boyz comic seriously?!? Time for a reality check, boys...and, as for Lick knickers...buy CK, 2xist, M&S or Primark instead.

And, as for those most foul Drag Queens...be ashamed.

The cruelty on show is - quite literally - staggering.

A timely reminder: Equality...is for each and all.

Mr McLeod...thank you for making and sharing this surprising, little film...more unexpected than planned.

And, Stavros - a great sense-of-humour with an undeniable talent for wearing Lick knickers...

The(ir) Blurb...

Stavros is looking for love. In a bid to find it he makes an unusual move - entering the 'Mr Gay UK' beauty pageant, a showcase for some of Britain's hottest men. Only problem is, at 30 stone (420 pounds), Stavros weighs 3 times as much as his competitors. Undeterred he signs up, but things don't go to plan - for Stavros or the pageant organisers! This is a documentary about one man's unbreakable spirit. Presenting a snapshot of gay attitudes to body image and how no-one persecutes a minority quite like a persecuted minority. 'Being Stavros' is a tale of triumph, heartbreak and how to wear your underpants.
