CGiii Comment

“I’m Fine” is a documentary that juxtaposes performance and interview. Shot in a single space, the dining/living room of a mother and daughter, the filmmakers bring together “real time” cinematic sensibility and conversation. In the first part, the audience attunes to the act of seeing and in the second part, to the act of listening. In a sense, the work provides two beautiful and engaging introductions to Tong and Cai Yun, who in their 50’s and 70’s respectively, have seen great change in the Taipei Tongzhi (LGBTQ) landscape. They reminisce about their relationship, their identities and their somewhat different ties to their Tongzhi communities. This complex, endearing and surprising work is a beautiful reflection on moving apart and coming together. This collaboration is by U.S. director and filmmaker Lucretia Knapp and visual artist Lynne Yamamoto.
