One thing is for sure...this won't be getting released in Russia! But, you just never know...seemingly McMafia was sold to a Russian network!
This is a hark back to those old Cold War films...and, with the current anti-Russian feeling running rife around the globe...Red Sparrow could not be more topical!
We've had the state sponsored doping scandal...nothing really was done about it! A slap on the wrist...a few bannings here and there!
We've had the illegal annexation of Crimea...nothing was really done about it. A rap across the knuckles...by the impotent United Nations.
We've got the continued support of the al-Assad dictatorship...chemical assaults and all...not much is being done to alleviate that situation. A few well-placed bombs! And still...people suffer and live in abject misery as al-Assad and Putin share a bowl of caviar.
Cyber attacks, rigged elections, state sponsored homophobia...what does this little man have to do to get his ass kicked?!? He's laughing.
So...a timely film about state sponsored prostitution will be like water off a duck's back to Putin's regime. Of course, it's propaganda...and, very entertaining propaganda it is too!
If you want to know how low Russian morality can sink, there's no better industry than Hollywood to make a convincing case! They throw the book at this one.
When you have the likes of Jeremy Irons and Charlotte Rampling in supporting roles...you just know, this is going to be a class act.
There's male frontal nudity [it's Hollywood!!!], a significant lesbian story-line...and with so many twists and turns the 139 minute runtime flies by! It's a white-knuckle, back-stabbing, spy-soaked, edge-of-the-seat, virtual rollercoater ride...helmed by a very seductive and treacherous Jennifer Lawrence! She does it so well!
Many will politicise the film...to its detriment. But...take it as it is...a sizzling hot orgy of back-stabbing spies!
