Maya (26), a young woman from London, travels alone to her girlfriend's small hometown after Ruth (23) passes away in an accident. She doesn't know anyone there, and no one knows her. When she arrives at Ruth's family home, she feels completely out of place; her girlfriend's world is foreign to her. Despite her fears, Maya wants to say goodbye to Ruth and speak at the funeral, but Ruth's sister, Clara, would rather she didn't. Ruth was not out in her hometown. Maya is shocked and thrown off balance; she never discussed this with Ruth, and now she's being introduced as "the friend from London."
