  • Director: Gianluca Matarrese
  • Producer: Dominique Barneaud, Casey Spooner

CGiii Comment

From the front rows of Paris fashion shows to decadent after-parties, drag queen Violet Chachki, musician Casey Spooner and style icon Michelle Elie share their impressions of the vapid publicity theatre and crushing court system of the fashion world. Loving the glitter but loathing the grind of its dream machine, they navigate the choppy waters of living a fantasy while at the same time not being able to pay rent, reconciling the illusion and delusion of fashion as concept, communication, commodity, environment and state of mind. Fashion Babylon presents a prism that tests whether you can live in a dream or just project onto one. Bringing the immaterial into the material world demands a relationship to fashion as art, but also to the fashion world as artifice, where the difference between artist and arriviste, gift and service, muse and mascot, is totally diffuse. But fashion is a show, after all—featuring appearances by Jean-Paul Gaultier, Karli Kloss, Céline Dion, Chloë Sevigny, Miuccia Prada and more. Angie Driscoll
