Venus Melite

Venus Melite follows a queer American photographer, Michael (Margaret 'Mars' Singer), who travels to the isolated Mediterranean island of Malta for an artist's residency. Recently single and forced to start over in her career, Michael has two weeks to create a body of original, impactful artwork for a public exhibition. Michael immerses herself into Malta's history and culture, searching for inspiration. After a chance meeting, she finds a muse in Katerina (Michela Farrugia), a young beekeeper and political activist whose idyllic rural farm is threatened by a corrupt developer. As they tour the island together, Michael documents Katerina working with her bee colonies, as well as the contrasting elements of Malta's stunning natural beauty and the intense urbanization of the tiny island. But as intimacy grows between the two women, menacing political forces threaten their idyll.
