Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives

What a rather strange documentary about a man who had his back stabbed more times than a pin-cushion...and, he kept bouncing [successfully] back!

Clive Davis discovered, nurtured and development some of the greatest talents the world has ever known...among many others, he signed Janis Joplin, gave Barry Manilow 'Mandy' and made Whitney a global superstar.

There's an abridged accout of how Mr Davis got into the music business. There are the obligatory testimonials as to his undeniable genius to spot bankable/profitable talent. And then there's the bisexual bit...out of nowhere, he declares that, after two failed marriages, he's bisexual. Totally incongruous to what's gone on before and completely unnecessary...bizarre to say the least. Thankfully, this interlude is brief...on with the job-in-hand and back to the music.

He certainly did create a soundtrack for many lives...his accomplishments are bewildering...and, he does come across as a very affable man.

His [deep] affection for Whitney is obvious, his contribution to the music industy is beyond imagination...the scandals, the corruption are all dealt with summarily. After all, Clive Davis is about music and that's exactly what this film delivers...great music with a few behind-the-scene tidbits...nothing too revelatory. Nothing too controversial.

Two well-spent hours pleasantly strolling down memory lane...what a dismal lane it would have been without Mr Davis' input.

There's only one thing left to say: Thank you for the music!
