CGiii Comment

Tim Curran was the first openly gay boy scout - stop laughing!

Steven Cozza is a pre-pubescent, straight scout who campaigns for the inclusion of gay boys in the scouts - stop laughing!

This is a truly bizarre documentary - it does feel as if it is a pushy-parent vehicle for Cozza to attain fame - in a truly bizarre way.

The conclusion will have you shrieking with laughter as the camp scout recounts his misery when he never received his Eagle Scout award - tears and sibilance abound.

Although it's not a comedy - it certainly has enough laughs to keep the momentum going...but, behind it is an insipid desire to be the centre of an attention that doesn't quite sit comfortably for the viewer.

Truly, truly bizarre.

Scout's Honor traces the conflict between the anti-gay policies of the Boy Scouts of America and the broad-based movement by many of its members to overturn them. The story is told predominantly through the experiences of a 13-year old boy and a 70-year-old man -- both heterosexual, both dedicated to the Scouts, and both determined to change the course of Scouting history. Their challenge is being waged in their hometown of Petaluma, California -- a place more familiar with agriculture than activism. Yet it is here where they began an international petition drive and media campaign to overturn the BSA's anti-gay policy.
