Cora Simmons (Caroline Farley), a crack-whip tongued married woman boards a train to Virginia to meet her husband to scout for potential business affairs. Missing a travel companion, much needed during the Victorian era, she is not allowed to board, until; Alessandra Brown (Yael Jeshion-Nelson), caregiver and wandering spirit offers to be her chaperone, lies to the conductor and chaperones Cora. The two discuss their lives, watching other passengers, realizing that their current positions are not ones of their choice or desire.
The two share intimate moments. Fixing a collar, bare hands touching in front of other passengers. Cora gives up her pink gloves to cover Alessandra's working woman hands. They must carry on the facade. The train stops in Virginia, and Cora must meet her husband at the station. She wants to stay, but can't. She's a wife despite all complications. She leaves Alessandra with one hopeful token, one hopeful promise: her pink gloves.
