Far from a chaotic Palermo that seems to have lost contact with any form of spirituality, lives Nino or, as he prefers to be called, Isravele, a semi-illiterate and former construction worker, who decided to abandon his family and dedicate his existence to God. As an implementation of the Benedictine rule ora et labora, the protagonist has been devoting himself for the last twenty years to the erection of a temple, born from the ruins of an old, disused observatory. Despite his advanced age, Isravele – whose name, read backwards, means ascension/rise – explores every day the barren mountain on which he lives, in search of the best stones for his sanctuary: a cathartic act that he likes to call prayer. For the realisation of his documentary, the director observed the life of this modern prophet, encouraging the viewer to come to terms with the responsibility that humans have towards nature.
