Series 1...

If you want to spend [so much] time in the company of the most unpleasant family ever to be adapted from a feature film and shoved into a TV series...then, this is right up your street!

Ellen Barkin is as watchable as ever...nasty but hypnotic!

As for the gay stuff...minimal. A closeted 'son' bashes his boyfriend when caught in a compromising act...nasty, not nice!

As is the whole first series...drugs, debauchery and criminality...just plain nasty.

Why are [good] feature films being made into [mediocre] TV series' - has the world run out of original writers, have all the TV execs gone stark raving mad???

The(ir) Blurb...

The series centers on 17-year-old Joshua 'J' Cody, who moves in with his freewheeling relatives in their Southern California beach town after his mother dies of a heroin overdose. Headed by boot-tough matriarch Janine 'Smurf' Cody and her right-hand Baz, who runs the business and calls the shots, the clan also consists of Pope, the oldest and most dangerous of the Cody boys; Craig, the tough and fearless middle son; and Deran, the troubled, suspicious 'baby' of the family.
