CGiii Comment

Good grief...this film has received some truly bizarre press!

It's animation [hand-painted at that], it's allowed to take liberties with reality...have you ever, ever, ever in your life seen a flying elephant!?!

Bombay Rose is about love...and all the nonsenses that perpetually prevent two people from being together...whether they be from different religions, same sexed...or, class divided. We all know love should prevail...but, in reality, it rarely does - especially in the crowded streets of Mumbai. Especially in societies that enforce arranged marriages and/or endorse brides-for-sale! Religion and tradition conveniently seem to forget love!

Gitanjali Rao's film makes many a poignant point...through a kaleidoscope of colour and stories. This is fact and fantasy combined...for the downtrodden, dreams are their only respite. This is a dream with razor-sharp reality.

No country wants their dirty laundry hung out for all the world to see. No traditionalist wants to be shown how archaic [and damaging] their traditions have become. As for the pious...well, they will continue bleating on about how god loves everyone...when they, themselves, despise those who do not conform to their ludicrous, hypocritical, bigoted conformations.

This is the unbridled power of animation...let loose. It's emotional. It's beautiful and brutal. It's a dream...of a film.
