We have all watched documentaries with blurred-out faces. Anonymity is crucial for many stories to be told...as powerful as those stories are, usually, there's a disconnect by the audience...you've got to put a face to the voice to really connect.

Jonas Poher Rasmussen has found a resolution and a solution to the anonymous 'disconnect' - he animates the story and the man...this is not just documentary, this is an animated docu-drama...that - most certainly and assuredly - connects.

The freedom to interpret and mold memories - like plasticine - lie in the filmmakers' hands...in less capable hands, this could have been a disaster. No fear here...this is craftsmanship, from the colour palette to the extrication of the story.

All lives are made up of truths and lies...lies are easier and come in different colours. Truths are hardcore, they can be as comforting as they can be punishing. For many, personal truth is a continuous process, it flows along with [your] maturity...how many times has a memory popped into your head and you suddenly realise the idiocy of that situation, feeling the regret that it brought...age can be the great leveller.

This film may be Amin's great leveller...he has told his lies, he has shared his truths...it really is a deeply affecting [and beautiful] film.
