CGiii Comment

There are so many 'Ball' films now, it's difficult to differentiate between them all.

Sadly, this just melds into that ever-expanding throng. Paris is Burning did three important things: it introduced the world to Ballroom, it explained the reasons why it exists...and, it set an indelible benchmark...over 34 years ago.

If you're going to make a film about Ballroom, set a new benchmark!

The(ir) Blurb...

"'The Alexander Ball' is an observational documentary extravaganza celebrating Samoan-Australian trans woman of colour, Ella Ganza, and the Meanjin (Brisbane) ballroom scene, as the community prepares for one of biggest ballroom events of the year: The Alexander Ball."

Ballroom culture originated within 1960s-70s New York founded by Black and Latinx trans women after the continuous discrimination from the LGBTQIA+ community. It's a global movement, lifestyle and a cutthroat competition where competitors known as walkers compete in various categories for the grand prize. The Alexander Ball is Australia's first look into the hypnotising world of Ballroom through an observational documentary extravaganza, following the exhilarating journey of Samoan-Australian trans woman of colour, Ella Ganza, as she and her Ballroom family prepare for one of the biggest events of the year: The Alexander Ball.
