Marshall, a Broadway heavyweight, and his cinematic debut.

It won 6 Oscars - best film but not best director...one day Hollywood will explain how a film can be the best without the director!?!

It's not a great film - Marshall is a little too cinematically inexperienced to direct this Fosse creation - he did do a version of Annie for TV...but, he did land an Oscar nomination for this, his debut feature!

It lacks the power of Cabaret - and the similarities are too obvious - however, he did manage to get some excellent performances...but, it all just misses the beat.

It really is unworthy of the accolades. But - watch it for the music.

Murderesses Velma Kelly (a chanteuse and tease who killed her husband and sister after finding them in bed together) and Roxie Hart (who killed her boyfriend when she discovered he wasn't going to make her a star) find themselves on death row together and fight for the fame that will keep them from the gallows in 1920s Chicago.
