Not nearly as funny as the German equivalent: Men with Balls.
Not nearly as bad as the British equivalent: Kickoff.
This bitter/sweet film lacks cohesiveness and direction - which is a shame because some of the deadpan humour is lost, not only in translation but within the eccentric storyline (and editing). Credibility goes flying out of the window.
What does come across is that Iceland is sexist (to the point of misogyny) and homophobic.
Frankly, the film fails.
The supposed quirkiness is irksome - this drives it towards an ending that will leave you rather unfulfilled (and angry).
It could have been so much better.

The(ir) Blurb...
The star player of Icelands top football team causes a stir when he admits to being gay to his team mates and then goes on a journey to discover himself (with the help of the local press). He soon finds himself on the bench for most of his teams matches and decides to call it quits and join a small amateur team made up of men like himself - gay guys trying to play football in a straight world of Icelandic fishing culture machoism.
