CGiii Comment

The serendipitous Mr LaBruce surprises us...yet again, by presenting - what would seem - an homage to fellow Canadian B-filmmaker, David DeCoteau...with a B-movie all of his own.

The only thing that separates this from a melodramatic daytime soap is the [wholly ridiculous] nudity. Apart from a willy [or two] and a few bare bums...Saint-Narcisse is jaw-droppingly vanilla! Remember: This is a Bruce LaBruce film! This is a very conservative Bruce LaBruce film...even with [tw]incest and pederastic priests!

There are bisexual twins - one being the reincarnation of Saint Sebastian [oooh what will become of him!?!], the other being a complete narcissist [hence the title]. Throw in a couple of lesbian/bisexual witches, bare-butt monks led by a religious fruit-cake...and, as you would - hopefully - expect...total madness and mayhem. Nope...not in the slightest...it stinks of vanilla!

How the actors kept a serious face delivering some of those lines is a credit to them. Alas, the acting is nearly as bad as some of those lines. Look...this has all the ingredients necessary to be a delicious camp fiasco...instead, it's a restrained disaster.

Bring back the old Mr LaBruce...vanilla doesn't suit you!
