CGiii Comment

First and foremost, there is absolutely no LGBT content whatsoever. Equating a feral child/girl, as the outsider, with the LGBT community is stretching it way beyond breaking point.

This is queerbaiting on a different level. Reason? Simple...to get as many people as possible to watch this lacklustre, rather humdrum, not-so-mysterious murder mystery.

Unlike Olivia Newman's gritty debut feature First Match, Crawdads goes nowhere near where it should have gone. It's as feral as a lapcat.

Being an 'outsider' is not exactly a hindrance, she manages to bed the two best-looking men from the nearby town...and, they both fall head-over-heels in love with her...declaring they couldn't possibly live without her! Well...one does and one doesn't.

But, being men...one is a little lily-livered when it comes to having sex [he's gay, that's why? No...it's just plain old queerbaiting]. The other is a lying Lothario...played by Harris Dickinson, who has played quite a few gay characters in his impressive career...sadly, not the case here.

Is Crawdads a bad film? No...not at all. What it is...just like the book...is a 'housewives' book/film. An escapist romance with great big dollops of idealism and very little realism.

The(ir) Blurb...

Kya Clark, otherwise known as the Marsh Girl by the townspeople of Barkley Cove, is mysterious and wild. Abandoned by her family, Where the Crawdads Sing is a coming of age story of a young girl raised by the marshlands of the south in the 50's. Watching many years past, when the town hotshot is found dead, and inexplicably linked to Kya, the Marsh Girl is the prime suspect in his murder case.
