CGiii Comment

Oooh please watch this...especially if you are of a certain age and lived in London - out and proud - in the 80s & 90s.

We all knew at least one sisters...and we - mostly - didn't have a clue what they were about...but, hey, they were mad, bizarre and fun.

This film is such sweet and sad nostalgia that doesn't shirk away from the horror and the controversy...Serena McKellan, the chilling voice of the witch, our losses, the government's criminal negligence.

We - of a certain age - have lived our entire adult lives within a pandemic. COVID vs HIV/AIDS...COVID got a 'vaccine' within months...HIV/AIDS, it took decades...what does that actually say!?!

Saintmaking: the 90s 'nuns' who made gay, HIV positive icon Derek Jarman a saint from The Guardian on Vimeo.

The(ir) Blurb...

This year marks the 30th anniversary of film-maker Derek Jarman's canonisation by an activist group of gay male 'nuns' known as the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. At the time in 1991, Derek Jarman was the most prominent person in the UK living openly with HIV. He was outspoken, radical and unapologetically queer. The perfect antidote, in the Sisters' eyes, to Ian McKellen's acceptance of a knighthood in the 1991 new year honours.
