CGiii Comment

No Oscar nominations for 'Best Director' nor 'Best Film' - the 'Academy' is rapidly becoming a joke! Especially when you look at some of the nominated films on the list! Black Panther...seriously...best film!?!

If Beale Street Could Talk...is nothing but artistry on-screen. And, with Nicholas Britell's wondrous score...If Beale Street Could Talk...is music to the ears.

Telling a story about miscarriages of justice can be a gruelling task...Barry Jenkins, with obvious help from Mr Baldwin, approaches the task-at-hand with an enviable aplomb...and, with a dignity that would normally be seen as out-of-place...in such a tale.

Yes, there are moments of fury and frustration [and, they do come in some surprising contexts]...however, these [understandable] high emotions are not the film's raison d'être - no, no, no, no...this film is so much more.

At its core, this is a love-story...that is so immersed in trust, belief and loyalty...the cockles in your heart will be warmed. This couple, these actors, are the epitome of love-in-the-face-of-adversity...their belief becomes the audience's belief, such is the mastery of both performers and director.

When you leave Beale Street...Beale Street resonates...how would you react? Ay, there's the rub...would you go down fighting...or, concede with dignity?

Powerful questions asked graciously by a film that is - quite simply - much more than a mere film. It is a statement!

Thank you Mr Baldwin. Thank you Mr Jenkins.
