CGiii Comment

Before Pose there was Saturday Church...

And, it's not too difficult to see where Ryan Murphy & Co got their inspiration from...and, their cast! You could almost be forgiven for thinking that this a prequel to the television series...surely, Mr Cardasis should be duly credited!

And...taken on for series 2, as a director...or, at least as a consultant - he certainly knows how to spot [and film] good [voguing] choreography. C'mon Mr Murphy, give him a job!

Sadly, Saturday Church will be overshadowed by Pose...but, not for the reasons you may think. Murphy's millions certainly makes Pose look good and - apart from some decidedly dodgy voguing sequences [and acting] - Season one delivered.

And...that's where Damon Cardasis comes in, he got the best out of his inexperienced actors and his ballroom footage was on a different [and better] level than that of Pose - it's not rocket science, give him a job - he has proven he can deliver even with a miniscule budget!

Give him the credit. Give him a job. Give him the money and the crew...and, his vision will fly off the screen...because, Saturday Church is a damn fine, little film, crammed full of talent and heart...by a new director, fit for purpose.

The(ir) Blurb...

14-year-old Ulysses is a shy and effeminate teen being raised in the Bronx by his strict Aunt Rose. He finds escape in a rich fantasy life of music and dance, and soon with a vibrant transgender youth community called Saturday Church. Damon Cardasis’ directorial debut is a rousing celebration of one boy’s search for his identity.
