CGiii Comment

Some may call it subtext...but, we are screaming LESBIAN!!! Seriously...this is: Hell has no fury like a woman scorned. Straight men...beware! She's coming to get you!

Yes...and, it really has to be said, this is a 113 minute, man-hating extravaganza...without respite. The feminists will absolutely love it, whooping with delight as each and [nearly] every man is crushed...and then, they - most definitely - won't be whooping! This is more twisted than Lombard Street! [Look it up].

Lauded with excessive praise and [potentially] excessive awards...no idea why! It is darkly funny [in places]...but, there is no denying the absolute anger behind the 'comedy' - and that anger takes it into the realm of...incredulity! Jaw-droppingly so!

Heed this as a warning...don't judge a book by its cover...or, to be more accurate, never judge the look of your lover!

It is a gripping film...although it doesn't have the venom of Fatal Attraction nor the eroticism of Basic Instinct...but, it does have a final 15 minutes that will leave you - depending on your POV - either over or under-whelmed...or, simply, befuddled.

This is Emerald Fennell's first feature behind the camera...and, she does do a decent job. But, this is Villanelle without the credible insanity. All Promising Young Woman needed was...credible insanity!
