CGiii Comment

Naked bodies, glitter, stage light! The first burlesque shows emerged at the end of the 19th century and brought an important distinction to con-ventional strip shows. An assertive staging of gender and nudity and the self-aware inclusion of the audience’s reactions led to self-empowerment for the performers. -Intersposed with extracts from stage performances, the queer group Club Burleske Brutal discusses -whether this still holds true for queer performers and ask how political burlesque is today.
