CGiii Comment

In 2011 we showed Before I Fall, Kanchi Wichmann's directorial debut, which followed the lives of a group of queer LGBTs involved with the East London rock scene. This year we are proud to present Wichmann's second film, Mixed Messages, focused on the single queer lesbian scene in Berlin's Kreuzberg and Neukölln neighborhoods, seen through the eyes of Ren, a young British lesbian who has moved to the city.

Wichmann, in her second film, succeeds in creating a comedy made up of ten entertaining, yet melancholy episodes that gently describe Ren's pursuit of love in all of the wrong places. Actress Alana Lake is charming in the leading role, undergoing an array of encounters and events, both ordinary and absurd, that many single women or men have had to deal with. Her experiences are sure to make you smile wryly, recalling your own similar past experiences.
